Light bulbs have recently become a big pain in my life. A few months ago I moved into a loft apartment with 13 light fixtures. That is a big deal if you have an 11-foot-tall ceiling and no ladder. Needless to say, I was very excited to hear about an energy-efficient light bulb that has the potential to last 19 years.

Panasonic has developed a line of 8 different LED lighting products that offer the most energy-efficient, lightest, and smallest LED bulbs in the industry. The line is called EVERLEDS LED lighting products and according to Panasonic their LED bulbs have a lifespan 40 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs.

The reason for this increase in energy-efficiency is the heat dissipation technology Panasonic has created. Basically, by applying an alumite treatment to the bulb’s surface, heat dissipation increased causing the temperature of the LED package to decrease.

The new LED bulbs are the lightest and smallest in the industry. This is due to their compact design that tightly joins the LED package to the casing. The casing is also thinner and the amount of aluminum used in the product has been reduced.

The EVERLEDS LED light bulbs will output light for 19 years if used maximally 5.5 hours per day, and over four and a half years if used all day, every day.

The EVERLEDS LED 6.9 watt light bulb was scheduled to hit stores in Japan October 21st at a price of $40. No news of when the product is coming to America but Panasonic is reportedly doing market research to launch EVERLEDS in the U.S., Europe and Southeast Asia.

$40 may seem expensive for a single light bulb but imagine how many light bulbs you could purchase in 19 years and how much better this product is for the environment. I believe that is what marketers’ call ‘added value’. Well, I’m sold!
