Billykirk from The Scout on Vimeo.
Awesome interview with the folks from BillyKirk on handmade clothing and buying products you hold on to for 20-30 years. BillyKirk started out in 1999 by the brothers Chris and Kirk as a handmade leather company; the brothers learned the trade from a third generation leather maker. Being an environmental blog, I can see some people having issues with us peddling leather goods, but the bigger picture here is that there is a huge difference in consumer behavior between buying a Gap belt that’ll last maybe a year and buying a handmade belt that’ll still look good on you ten years later.

Vintage Fedora Via Ebay
One of my favorite blogs has just posted a nicely written bit of wisdom on being thrifty. Perfect timing as the holiday shopping frenzy is upon us. Read up, then head on over to Crossroads Trading Co. or Buffalo Exchange (my personal favorites) if your in Chicago, if not, ebay is a great place to find cheap treasures.

Normal Rockwell's classic potrayal of the typical American Thanksgiving dinner.
Don’t miss Planet Green’s article about how to discuss pressing, ’sensitive’, topics over Thanks dinner with those planet warming denying, meat eating, car driving, fauxhemian relatives of yours. Take a gander, and don’t forget to pass that organic vegan gravy!
Bonus: Don’t pass up on watching the Ed. Burroughs Thanksgiving Prayer, it is a true classic!

I’ve often thought how ridiculous it is that our toilets use clean, perfectly drinkable water to catch our ‘output’, so I was pretty excited to see this article on Treehugger that allows you to turn your tank into a sink, recycling that graywater for usage inside the toilet. While I’m all for water recycling, I wish we could take it a step further and just take water out of the equation completely. Enter Enviorlet®, the waterless composting toilet system, not very practical for renters I know, but all you home owners out there need to get with it.

Rent this 'ATV', only $10/mo!
Launched a few months ago (currently invite only) Rentalic is a person to person community that allows you to rent out anything you may own to others, while pocketing some cash and saving the person from having to buy something they may only need once.
Our Vision: Help make the world a better place by building economically and environmentally sustainable communities.
Our Mission: To help people save money, make money, and save the environment by encouraging reuse and sharing through person-to-person renting.
It’s still very new, and it looks like only available to Califorinians, it would be neat if someday the site could function as a sort of Craigslist for renting.
